Beat the Streets is designed in 3 different branches with the same goal, Which is to beat the Streets.
When hearing the name Beat the Streets, some will already know and admire what it is and the meaning behind it, While others need a little more explanation, Furthermore I would like to explain the meaning behind Beat the Streets, and its different aspects in it entirety.
My name is Dashaun Howell, I was born and raised in the city of Wilmington. In my 21 years of living I was able to build relationships with many different types of people, with many different backgrounds. While building these relationships I learned that while we all may of grown up differently, we all have things in common. Theres two things that I’ve learned that stuck with me and which led me to create Beat the Streets, One is that we all grew up in the city of Wilmington, and two is we all chose a different lifestyle based off what influenced us the most.
The problem within our communities is that there is a narrative that is being built and we as the community is slowly developing.
And that narrative is that we hate each other. Growing up from a child to now and adult in the city I see pretty clearly that the problem is not hate. While having conversations with different people that lived all different lifestyle the common ground was we all come from the same city just different communities. While living in different communities we see and learned different things. So the problem is not that we hate each other the problem is lack of positive influence which leads to lack of knowledge. It’s hard to teach someone if you can’t influence them, that’s why there’s so many kids that have trouble in school. So I created Beat the Streets to be that positive influence. The 3 branches of Beat the Streets are above.
